NJ Engagement Photographer - Liberty State Park Engagement photos

Dominie and Kenny Liberty State House Engagement Photos

It’s been raining a lot in New Jersey, and even when it doesn’t rain, the skies are sadly gray, so one never knows for sure whether to bring the umbrella or not. Dominie and I have been trying to coordinate her engagement session for several weeks, but between their work schedule, preparing for her wedding and the weather, we almost run out of days in the summer, and their fall wedding is just two weeks away. Luckily last week, the weather people were wrong not one day, but the whole week, so it allowed us to photograph her engagement session along with two other engagements.

Originally, we had planned for winery themed engagement photos, but we were forced to switch to a more urban setting at Liberty State Park. It was now or never!! The skies had compassion, there was no rain, and we simply had a great time with this amazing couple! Kenny and Dominie compliment each other. They are opposites, and they simply adore one another.

NJ Westmount Country Club Wedding - Lindsay and Alex Levine Wedding Photos

Lindsay and Alex Westmount Country Club Wedding Photography

It’s not often that I meet my bride and groom the day of the wedding, but this was the case for Alex and Lindsay’s wedding. Alex had called me a few months ago to inquire about our wedding photography, and I immediately liked him. Why? Because he spoke so nicely about his fiance. When the wedding day arrived, all I knew about my couple is that Alex was a musician and Lindsay was beautiful. The moment I met Lindsay, she had me at Hello!! She was super sweet and kind, aside from the fact that Alex was not exaggerating when he said she was GORGEOUS. Even though, we never met, we instantly clicked, and it was an absolute joy to photograph their wedding. Alex and Lindsay are kind and a smoking hot couple who irradiates energy and are incredibly in love with each other. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness on your marriage, and to you Alex, I wish you and Gaslight Anthem much success. Picking the song for your slide-show was harder than I expected, so I hope you like my selection.

Lindsay’s and Alex wedding took place at The Wesmount country club, and everything about their wedding was absolutely amazing, starting with this Vintage Rolls Royce.

Harvard New York City Wedding – Erica & John’s Wedding Highlight

Erica and John’s wedding at The Harvard Club in New York City was scheduled to take place the same week hurricane Irene hit New York City, but not even mother nature could stop this beautiful young couple from getting married.

Their wedding was the perfect occasion to bring family and friends, from all over the world, together under one roof and for one whole weekend; add to that wonderful music from Irish fiddlers, the rhythm of great Indian music mixed by DJ Akash one of the best NYC dhol players, and you have a perfect NYC wedding that embraces love, family and culture.

Philadelphia Indian Wedding – Kiran and Ankur Wedding Photos

I’ve been looking forward to Kiran and Ankur’s Wedding for a while now. This couple is so genuinely nice and kind, that you can’t help but fall in love with them. I was also excited to shoot an Indian Wedding. Really, what is not to like about an Indian Wedding; they are colorful, vibrant, full of tradition and details, and boy, they sure know how to party! I was also super excited to photograph my very first wedding in Philadelphia.

The morning of their wedding, I felt butterflies of excitement in my stomach as we traveled to Philadelphia. We started our day at the Double Tree Hotel in Philadelphia where they were both getting ready. Kiran and Ankur married in a traditional Hindu ceremony. As with Hindu tradition, the ceremony is preceded by a Baraat, a procession where the groom is accompanied by his family and friends to meet his soon to be wife. The colors were so vibrant and joy was contagious.

A special thank you goes out to Asiya for second shooting and to Jarlen (third shooter) for assisting Danny and me every step of the way. How can I forget the wonderful staff at the Double Tree Hotel in Philadelphia who were absolutely fantastic. And to my wonderful Bride and Groom for allowing us to document this special day!!

New York City Wedding Photography - Martine and Nicola NYC Wedding Photos

NYC Wedding Photography – Martine and Nicola NYC Wedding Photos

Normally, I don’t work backwards. What do I mean? Well, I mean, after I photograph a wedding, I process all the photos; I selected some of my favorite moments and blog about the wedding; I may upload some photos to FB -depending on the privacy we had discussed, and then some weddings are featured in the press.

Martine and Nicola’s wedding was different. If you follow my blog, you may have noticed that things were posted backwards. The very first day after the wedding, I grabbed some of my favorites pictures, processed them and uploaded them to FB, then I continue to process all the pictures, their wedding story was featured in ABC news, I blogged about their wedding making news, and now, I’m finally blogging about the wedding. See what I mean.

Martine and Nicola were supposed to get married on August 28, you know that was the day when Hurricane Irene was said to hit New Jersey. Days before the wedding, the Governor declared state of emergency and one of the mayor highways was shut down. The situation looked dire, and it was clear the wedding was simply not going to happen, at least as planned. For scheduling reasons, their wedding couldn’t be postponed beyond a few days because Martine was leaving NYC to join her husband in another state. Many guests had already traveled from out of town, and even transportation in NYC was shut down forcing many business to close. The possibilities were very limited. Luckily, Martine had hired Fouzia Elidrissi as day-off wedding coordinator, but considering the circumstances, Fouzia Elidrissi happily took charge as a full wedding planner, and re-planned the wedding in less than 24 hours. We communicated back and forth and luckily the wedding took place.

Unfortunately, not all guests could make it, and among those guests were Nicola’s parents. As we drove to the reception, the sun set right behind the New Jersey skyline while Nicola talked to his parents on the phone and talked a little bit about the wedding.  I took a photo, and that image stayed in my mind all night. I kept thinking about this picture. I knew it would be grainy and maybe blurry; after all I took it under terrible lighting conditions: inside a car, after sunset, backlit and no flash, but the meaning of that picture was profound, at least through my viewfinder. I wondered how I would feel if Isabella got married, and I was not there to see her walking down the aisle. I wondered how Martine felt after planning this wedding for so long and not being able to have all her friends or family.

So I did what any romantic photographer would do. I bypassed my own workflow, grabbed about 30-40 pictures and uploaded them on FB for Martine. She was looking at those pictures as I was tagging her, and she cried.

Martine and Nicola, it was an absolute honor to me to have been part of your wedding day.

Silent Brooklyn Bridge ” Let us not forget” – Photo of the Week

I stood there looking at the empty Brooklyn Bridge. It was a beautiful Saturday morning, and we arrived at the wedding venue two hours early to avoid any unforeseen delays. But it was not a typical Saturday in New York; it was September 11, 2010. I snapped a picture of an empty and silent Brooklyn Bridge. A few degrees to the left, and I would have gotten a skyline that reminded of a day I don’t want to remember. So here is my “Silent Brooklyn Bridge” to help me not forget.

NYC Wedding - Martine and Nicola NYC wedding Photos

Featured Wedding – ABC Eyewitness news – Martine and Nicola

Just this week, I blogged about a wedding that I photographed one day before hurricane Irene was scheduled to hit NYC. For us, the story of being affected by hurricane Irene didn’t end with that wedding. As I mentioned before, I was glued to the TV for days before the wedding, some will say I was paranoid, but I had good reason to be concerned. We actually had two weddings that weekend, and the second one was scheduled to take place in New Jersey, the same morning hurricane Irene was going to touch land. As soon as the Governor declared state of emergency on New Jersey, I panicked not because of me, but I thought of my bride. How would she feel? For three days, Fouzia Elidrissi, the wedding coordinator and owner of My Bridal Budget, and I emailed back and forth, and I mean every couple of minutes. We discussed several back-up plans and everything else from changing the date, availability, to changing location and time of day. We went from a morning wedding in a beautiful New Jersey ballroom, to a New York City wedding at a church and reception in a hip restaurant, Scarpina, with a portrait session in a beautiful but crowded Union Square park after sunset. Did I mention it was at night? Everything was re-planned in less than 24 hours thanks to the tenacity of Fouzia, the wedding coordinator, and the willingness to help of Scarpina‘s owner, Albana, and of its executive chef.

In the end, Martine and Nicola married, and they had the wedding that she had always dreamed of, marrying the man that she loves. Martine and Nicola’s story was picked up by ABC news, and we are honored to learned that they featured the wedding photos Danny and I took. Click Here to view Martine and Nicola’s news story

Harvard Club of New York City Wedding : Erica and John

There are events in life that you never forget, and Erica and John’s wedding is one of those special days that will stay in our memories forever. You see, we never get hurricanes in the East Coast, and on this very day, a category 3 hurricane was on its way to hit New York City; mass transit was shut down in NYC for the first time in history. For days before this wedding, I was glued to the TV, and read every single news update keeping all my 10 fingers – and even my toes – crossed hoping that hurricane Irene would spare us, but specially spare this wedding. I mean, I was not afraid of the actual storm, but of how the storm would affect the wedding and my couple.

All of a sudden, all of the plans we had made for pictures were out the window. No outdoor portraits at Bryant Park. Or beautiful photojournalistic pictures with NYC as a backdrop. No natural lighting. No portraits in Grand Central station. I needed a back-up plan for pictures, in addition to worrying about safety, protecting our equipment against the rain, chance of flooding and high winds on our way back, and even the possibility that we may not be able to go back home to our daughter that night.

But as luck would have it, Erica and John had selected The Harvard Club of New York City as the place where they would tie the knot because it meant so much to them, and it didn’t disappoint. The Harvard Club NYC turned into a fortress; Erica and John’s guests and friends from all over the world checked in, as did all the staff who planned to stay in through the storm. Everyone was so committed to making this wedding happen. And it did.

Erica and John’s wedding at The Harvard Club was just lovely – insert Irish accent.
