New York City Wedding Photography - Martine and Nicola NYC Wedding Photos

NYC Wedding Photography – Martine and Nicola NYC Wedding Photos

Normally, I don’t work backwards. What do I mean? Well, I mean, after I photograph a wedding, I process all the photos; I selected some of my favorite moments and blog about the wedding; I may upload some photos to FB -depending on the privacy we had discussed, and then some weddings are featured in the press.

Martine and Nicola’s wedding was different. If you follow my blog, you may have noticed that things were posted backwards. The very first day after the wedding, I grabbed some of my favorites pictures, processed them and uploaded them to FB, then I continue to process all the pictures, their wedding story was featured in ABC news, I blogged about their wedding making news, and now, I’m finally blogging about the wedding. See what I mean.

Martine and Nicola were supposed to get married on August 28, you know that was the day when Hurricane Irene was said to hit New Jersey. Days before the wedding, the Governor declared state of emergency and one of the mayor highways was shut down. The situation looked dire, and it was clear the wedding was simply not going to happen, at least as planned. For scheduling reasons, their wedding couldn’t be postponed beyond a few days because Martine was leaving NYC to join her husband in another state. Many guests had already traveled from out of town, and even transportation in NYC was shut down forcing many business to close. The possibilities were very limited. Luckily, Martine had hired Fouzia Elidrissi as day-off wedding coordinator, but considering the circumstances, Fouzia Elidrissi happily took charge as a full wedding planner, and re-planned the wedding in less than 24 hours. We communicated back and forth and luckily the wedding took place.

Unfortunately, not all guests could make it, and among those guests were Nicola’s parents. As we drove to the reception, the sun set right behind the New Jersey skyline while Nicola talked to his parents on the phone and talked a little bit about the wedding.  I took a photo, and that image stayed in my mind all night. I kept thinking about this picture. I knew it would be grainy and maybe blurry; after all I took it under terrible lighting conditions: inside a car, after sunset, backlit and no flash, but the meaning of that picture was profound, at least through my viewfinder. I wondered how I would feel if Isabella got married, and I was not there to see her walking down the aisle. I wondered how Martine felt after planning this wedding for so long and not being able to have all her friends or family.

So I did what any romantic photographer would do. I bypassed my own workflow, grabbed about 30-40 pictures and uploaded them on FB for Martine. She was looking at those pictures as I was tagging her, and she cried.

Martine and Nicola, it was an absolute honor to me to have been part of your wedding day.

After the ceremony we headed to Union Square park. The Park was crowded and dark, so I used as much available light as possible.

Featured Wedding – ABC Eyewitness news – Martine and Nicola

Just this week, I blogged about a wedding that I photographed one day before hurricane Irene was scheduled to hit NYC. For us, the story of being affected by hurricane Irene didn’t end with that wedding. As I mentioned before, I was glued to the TV for days before the wedding, some will say I was paranoid, but I had good reason to be concerned. We actually had two weddings that weekend, and the second one was scheduled to take place in New Jersey, the same morning hurricane Irene was going to touch land. As soon as the Governor declared state of emergency on New Jersey, I panicked not because of me, but I thought of my bride. How would she feel? For three days, Fouzia Elidrissi, the wedding coordinator and owner of My Bridal Budget, and I emailed back and forth, and I mean every couple of minutes. We discussed several back-up plans and everything else from changing the date, availability, to changing location and time of day. We went from a morning wedding in a beautiful New Jersey ballroom, to a New York City wedding at a church and reception in a hip restaurant, Scarpina, with a portrait session in a beautiful but crowded Union Square park after sunset. Did I mention it was at night? Everything was re-planned in less than 24 hours thanks to the tenacity of Fouzia, the wedding coordinator, and the willingness to help of Scarpina‘s owner, Albana, and of its executive chef.

In the end, Martine and Nicola married, and they had the wedding that she had always dreamed of, marrying the man that she loves. Martine and Nicola’s story was picked up by ABC news, and we are honored to learned that they featured the wedding photos Danny and I took. Click Here to view Martine and Nicola’s news story

Harvard Club of New York City Wedding : Erica and John

There are events in life that you never forget, and Erica and John’s wedding is one of those special days that will stay in our memories forever. You see, we never get hurricanes in the East Coast, and on this very day, a category 3 hurricane was on its way to hit New York City; mass transit was shut down in NYC for the first time in history. For days before this wedding, I was glued to the TV, and read every single news update keeping all my 10 fingers – and even my toes – crossed hoping that hurricane Irene would spare us, but specially spare this wedding. I mean, I was not afraid of the actual storm, but of how the storm would affect the wedding and my couple.

All of a sudden, all of the plans we had made for pictures were out the window. No outdoor portraits at Bryant Park. Or beautiful photojournalistic pictures with NYC as a backdrop. No natural lighting. No portraits in Grand Central station. I needed a back-up plan for pictures, in addition to worrying about safety, protecting our equipment against the rain, chance of flooding and high winds on our way back, and even the possibility that we may not be able to go back home to our daughter that night.

But as luck would have it, Erica and John had selected The Harvard Club of New York City as the place where they would tie the knot because it meant so much to them, and it didn’t disappoint. The Harvard Club NYC turned into a fortress; Erica and John’s guests and friends from all over the world checked in, as did all the staff who planned to stay in through the storm. Everyone was so committed to making this wedding happen. And it did.

Erica and John’s wedding at The Harvard Club was just lovely – insert Irish accent.

The Palace at Somerset New Jersey Wedding – Rebecca and Tommy

If Life gave people medals based on their perseverance, well Life, you owe Tommy a big medal. Tommy had such perseverance, that he asked Rebecca out for three months before she agreed to go out with him. She hesitantly agreed, but he immediately swept her off her feet. They dated for a while, and after a long and romantic walk on the beach, he proposed and she cried. On this beautiful wedding day, Tommy got much more than a medal. He GOT the girl, and what a girl.

Rebecca and Tommy are so in love, and we were thrilled to document their beautiful wedding at The Palace at Somerset Park. It was so refreshing to see them enjoy every single moment of their wedding day.

We started the day at The Palace at Somerset Park in Central New Jersey, where we took pictures of Rebecca and her wonderful group of bridesmaids getting ready. Since we walked in, there was music and laughter. The girls were really having a good time, and some were even dancing. It definitely set the mood for a great wedding day. Since I was shooting solo, I sneaked out a couple of times to take a pictures of the boys being boys. Rebecca and Tommy decided to see each other before the ceremony, in what is known as The First look, and we couldn’t have been more grateful because it gave us much needed time for portraits, which was key since we had one of the largest bridal parties we have photographed.

A big thank you goes out to Kisha and her Pure Ambiance Team for planning and executing a wedding that flowed flawlessly, even when at the very last minute, the outdoor ceremony was moved indoors due to the rain; that’s what a call a Pro, and yes, I’m a spoil now.

In the end, it all worked, and Rebecca and Tommy tied the knot in a beautiful Jewish and Catholic Ceremony inside The Palace Somerset.

Ida and Giovanni Engagement Photos in New Brunswick NJ

Ida and Giovanni are one of sweetest couples we’ve met, but then again we consider ourselves extremely lucky because all our clients are awesome. Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, holds a special place in their hearts, and after many years, they returned for a nice and fun engagement photo session to the place that saw their relationship flourish.

Because of their busy lives, they scheduled their engagement photos for July, and who would have guessed that the worst heat wave of the year would hit us that same week. Regardless of how hot it was out there, they enjoyed themselves and had a great time taking their engagement photos.

NJ Wedding Photographer - wedding rings

Photo of the Week – Love – love – love

I was browsing through wedding pictures for a new video gallery that I’m working on, and I stumbled across this photo. I remember this wedding as it was yesterday. Yassmine had this picture hanging from the wall, and I borrowed it for this picture. It is just to proof that I’m very nosy, and that some phrases par with wedding details can sometimes take a whole different meaning: LOVE – LOVE – LOVE.

New Jersey Wedding Video – Rebecca & Tommy’s Love Story Engagement Video

Being wedding photographers and videographers for a long time, we decided to include a video session to all our engagement photography session. We think that would be a great touch to our wedding videos.
For Tommy and Rebecca, we selected the waterside in hoboken, which is a great place to do an engagement session.

As Gaby was doing the engagement photography session, I was filming them. Afterwards, we sit down for a several minutes to do the interview about their love story.

When I got home that I imported all the footage, I noticed that the sound was not optimal, as it was very windy that day. I contacted Rebecca and explained the situation and we agreed to do the interviews again.

I went to their house and we found a very nice spot at their backyard. It was quiet, except for a couple of birds that were chirping like crazy. I said “you know what? don’t worry about it” and we continued.

As I love the way that Gaby processes the pictures, I am trying to color correct my videos similar to her photos. Staying away from those dramatic wedding pictures people are used to, Gaby uses a fresh style that I also want to use in my videos.

I could say that I am very happy with the final product.
