Movie Weekend recommendations – Antonio Banderas, Bradley Cooper and Paul Rudd

It’s no secret, I’m in LOVE with films. The lights go down, and for ninety minutes you are transported into another world. You cry, you laugh or scream of horror, but for that period of time, the world disappears, and you are submerged into the imagination of the filmmakers. The ultimate treat is coming out of the movies with the feeling that you just watched a great story. I can’t say when I started loving them, but I remember being a little girl and watching black and white horror movies every day even when I couldn’t sleep at night. Or begging my mom to let me rent a movie – EVERY DAY- as long as I got all As. Yes, I’m a film buff, and a very proud one. Luckily Danny is a film buff too, and together we remember film quotes or references that nobody can understand. We are known for watching films nobody else knows or watches, from all genres and countries. Our friends know us for that. In light of that, I would like to continue with my movie recommendation posts.

This week I’m recommending three great actors in three very different genres: Antonio Banderas, Paul Rudd and Bradley Cooper.

Foreign: “The Skin I live in” – by Almodovar. If you are an Almodovar far, you have to watch this film. If you are not an Almodovar fan, you better pass. This film is for serious film lovers as it is like non other.

Comedy: “My idiot brother” – This movie is seriously silly, and totally awesome. Great acting, amazing cast and totally unpretentious, it definitely became one of my favorite Paul Rudd’s movies.

Thriller: “Limitless” – With Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro you can’t really go wrong. Very good acting by Bradley Cooper, and a great story that will make you want to be Limitless.

Weekend Movie Suggestions

If you don’t know by now, I’m a film lover. For me, there is nothing like watching a good film. I get immerse in the story and during that time, life stops, and I enter into this alternate universe of fantasy, drama, comedy, or whatever genre I feel like watching. Thankfully, Danny is my film watching partner, and he loves films as much as I do. And the best part of all is that we both like the same kind of films, which is not what I can say about some of our friends.

Why? Because we like so many different genres. Old Classic Films, BW films, Foreign films, Hollywood Blockbusters, Independent, old slapstick comedies, oh yeah, I love Charles Chaplin and I think “The Kid” is one of his best films, and I could go on.
After Films, computers, the internet, the ipod, gps, I believe Netflix, and its movie streaming, is one the world’s best technological creations. I could watch almost any film I want, whenever I want, from any genre I want. What else can I ask for after a long week of hard work? Movie and ice cream. It’s heaven!

So I thought of starting a weekly blog post with a few movie recommendations for the weekend.

French Films. If the title scares you because you think grainy old and boring films, you’re wrong. French films are some of the best foreign films being made right now, with some of the best performances and actors. I dare you to watch one, and I can assure you will fall in love with them.

The Dinner Game – Each week, Pierre and his friends organize what is called as “un dîner de cons” where everyone brings the dumbest guy they could find as a guest. Directed by Francis Veber, one of my favorite French directors, known for have written the original screenplay of the Birdcage, and the Toy. This is the original version of Dinner for Schmucks.

The Valet – A porter and a top-model have to pretend to be a couple in order to salvage a CEO’s marriage. Starring Gad Elmaleh and directed by Francis Veber

Priceless – The funny story of a gold digger. Starring Audrey Tautou and Gad Elmaleh
