There are events in life that you never forget, and Erica and John’s wedding is one of those special days that will stay in our memories forever. You see, we never get hurricanes in the East Coast, and on this very day, a category 3 hurricane was on its way to hit New York City; mass transit was shut down in NYC for the first time in history. For days before this wedding, I was glued to the TV, and read every single news update keeping all my 10 fingers – and even my toes – crossed hoping that hurricane Irene would spare us, but specially spare this wedding. I mean, I was not afraid of the actual storm, but of how the storm would affect the wedding and my couple.
All of a sudden, all of the plans we had made for pictures were out the window. No outdoor portraits at Bryant Park. Or beautiful photojournalistic pictures with NYC as a backdrop. No natural lighting. No portraits in Grand Central station. I needed a back-up plan for pictures, in addition to worrying about safety, protecting our equipment against the rain, chance of flooding and high winds on our way back, and even the possibility that we may not be able to go back home to our daughter that night.
But as luck would have it, Erica and John had selected The Harvard Club of New York City as the place where they would tie the knot because it meant so much to them, and it didn’t disappoint. The Harvard Club NYC turned into a fortress; Erica and John’s guests and friends from all over the world checked in, as did all the staff who planned to stay in through the storm. Everyone was so committed to making this wedding happen. And it did.
Erica and John’s wedding at The Harvard Club was just lovely – insert Irish accent.
I have to give a big thank you to The Harvard Club New York City, Brian and all the staff for being so professional and simply amazing.
